Abigail creates a sanctuary with a little paint and alot of talent...
Before
Before, this small bedroom in Clermont, Florida was lacking in personality, organization and didn't provide the peace the homeowner yearned for.
The homeowner requested Abigail create a sanctuary with the feel of "Animal Kingdom", a popular resort in Central Florida filled with African themes and a huge variety of faux finishes.
With a very limited budget, Abigail managed to accomplish her task by creatively using a small amount of paint on-hand and reworking a number of items she found in the home.
What began as a simple faux stone treatment emerged into a waterfall mural on the west wall, creating the illusion of much needed space.
Abigail continued along the wall and added a faux brick archway around the window that transitions into a crumbling stone ledge at the base of the wall and a misty jungle of plant life on the opposite side of the window.

Abigail
was able to visually open the room and create an illusion of additional
space by leaving an unfinished edge of the faux stone treatment near
the top of the wall and painting the ceiling a very pale blue.
Abigail also painted the corners of the room in such a way that they actually disappear, which also enhanced the illusion of space.
The round mirror on the east wall originally looked like something out of the 70's. It already had a frame that was textured like stone, only it was aqua. By painting it with a faux fieldstone finish and strategically placing it to reflect the waterfall on the west wall, Abigail made it appear as if there is a hole in the middle of the east wall with a view of another waterfall in the distance.
The wine colored duvet added the finishing touch, complimenting the rich reds in the faux brick treatment around the window and making it really pop out as one enters the room, visually bringing it closer than the waterfall.
Three simple nature photographs replace the awards that were previously cluttering the north wall.
Using a bit of creativity Abigail accessorized the room by salvaging and old dresser and piece of petrified wood found in the garage that were both looking alot like they were...yes, right out of the 70's.
Enhancing the dresser with a bamboo like finish gave it a whole new look and added to the natural feel of the room.
A piece of petrified wood found in the garage made a perfect top for a side table. Abigail created a faux tree trunk by sculpting paper mache around a metal frame and painting it to compliment the petrified wood. The result was a very unique side table that added to the natural elements already in the room.
Abigail's
artistic talents and interests go beyond that of a muralist and she
enjoys complete room makeovers to compliment her murals. Abigail specializes in re-designs, using materials that would otherwise be tossed aside, resulting in one of a kind accessories that money just can't buy.
This
homeowner was ecstatic with the final results, as the initial plan was
to simply paint the room a different color!
He was so thrilled with the results that he hired Abigail to makeover his kitchen, only he didn't want to change the color of the walls. To see how Abigail managed to add color and warmth to the room without the use of paint, click here.
